Jews of Color Initiative Launches Philanthropy Fellowship

Applications Open for Placements Offerings Real-World Philanthropy Experience at JoCI

February 8, 2023 — The Jews of Color Initiative (JoCI), an organization dedicated to advancing racial equity in the U.S. Jewish community, today announced the launch of a pilot program, the JoCI Philanthropy Fellowship. The 12-month program will recruit up to three Jews of Color, and equip them with the relevant skills, knowledge, connections, and experience to work in Jewish philanthropic roles across the communal ecosystem, in order to create a more racially equitable and representative Jewish communal ecosystem.

The new JoCI Philanthropy Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to work within the Jews of Color Initiative and gain experience in the Jewish communal philanthropic ecosystem through a racial equity framework. This Fellowship provides extensive training, professional development, a strong network, and access to view the world of grantmaking through the only national philanthropic fund laser-focused on Jews of Color.

“Jews of Color need this institutional funding and support as we work to build a Jewish institutional ecosystem that is truly equitable and multiracial,” said Gabi Kuhn, Senior Program Officer of the Jews of Color Initiative. “Philanthropy really is the engine that drives Jewish organizational life. Our Philanthropy Fellowship is an exciting investment into the future of JoC community and leadership.”

The Philanthropy Fellows will support JoCI program development, review grant proposals and budgets, and manage assigned portfolios in JoCI’s grants program. Fellows will shepherd potential grantees through the grant inquiry and application process and manage all internal operations related to making and managing the grants.

Potential Fellows are encouraged to apply if they meet the majority of required qualifications, are hard-working and self-starting, are ready to be on a fast-paced, agile, and quickly growing team, and think they would be a fit for this role with JoCI.
