Position: J Street, the pro-Israel, pro-peace lobby, is seeking a Deputy Director of Jewish Communal Engagement: an organized project manager with experience creating and executing projects from conception to implementation. The successful candidate will be strategic, detail-oriented, and resourceful – developing relationships and engagement opportunities with and for leaders of the Jewish community that advance a more nuanced conversation on Israel in Jewish communal institutions.

The ideal candidate will have: a proven track record of successful program/project management; a strong background in Jewish communal organizations and stakeholder engagement; issue fluency; professional familiarity with the role of Israel and the US-Israel relationship in American politics, foreign policy and the American Jewish community; and dedication to promoting peace and diplomacy-first US foreign policy, helping to secure a better future for Israelis and Palestinians.  A strong work ethic, progressive values, and positive demeanor highly valued!

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Deputy Director will implement a vision for clergy engagement with guidance from fellow Jewish communal staff—coordinating leadership development within affiliated clergy, leveraging the impact of the 1,000+ members of the Rabbinic and Cantorial Cabinet, and fostering Cabinet membership growth. The Deputy Director will assist in the cultivation of relationships and execution of strategies that expand and deepen our connections with Jewish institutions and lay leaders on the national and local levels. The Deputy Director will oversee, in consultation with the National Director of Communal Relations and our clergy partners, the development of resources and materials that can be utilized by key Jewish communal stakeholders, as well as content that connects J Street’s core issues with Jewish holidays and themes. The Deputy Director will serve as a team player and Jewish Communal Department representative to staff across the organization and various stakeholders (e.g. clergy, lay leaders, student activists).  The Deputy Director will work to create opportunities for J Street and the Pro-Israel, Pro-Peace perspective to be part of national and local community conversations.

Required Qualifications: At least 6 years of relevant experience within the Jewish community Strong familiarity with the Jewish institutional landscape and basic Jewish literacy A strong commitment to J Street’s mission and the future of Israel as a national homeland of the Jewish people and a state of all its citizens Strong written, verbal, and presentational skills Impeccable attention to detail  Proven track record of successful project management Desired Qualities Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while identifying and focusing in on priorities A big picture strategist with an eye and affection for the details Highly motivated and ambitious Exceptional interpersonal skills and presence, discretion and mature judgment A great teammate who is committed to contributing to, building on and amplifying the successes of those around them Understanding of and fluency in the policy issues on which the organization works: foreign policy, the Middle East, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Physical Requirements: There are no extraordinary physical requirements for the performance of the essential functions of this position. Compensation Salary for this full-time exempt position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, starting at $69,000-$74,000. Hours and duties may fluctuate based on J Street events and staff travel schedules.
