In an ever-evolving effort to provide our support to the Jews of Color community, we are excited to announce that we will be piloting a New York Hub of the Jews of Color Initiative!
The New York Hub, funded by the UJA-Federation of New York, will establish vital institutional structure for meeting the needs of the JoC community of New York City. New York has one of the largest and fastest-growing populations of Jews of Color in the U.S., including an up-and-coming generation of young innovators and leaders, and numerous organizations with which to collaborate.
The New York Hub will host two pillar programs that will establish infrastructure to support the vibrant and growing JoC community of New York City. The first program is a fellowship for young adult JoCs that will match fellows to nonprofits and JoC mentors based on their interests and career aspirations, pairing two fellows per each nonprofit. The second program is an Incubator that will use tested methods and individualized approaches to help grantees develop, launch, and expand their innovative programming.
Both programs will further the JoCI’s mission to address the unequal access and lack of representation of Jews of Color in Jewish organizations and leadership roles by developing new structural supports that further the visions of JoC leaders. To manage the efforts of the New York Hub, the Jews of Color Initiative will bring on an additional staff member who will be based in New York and work cooperatively alongside the existing, national JoCI team.
As we embark on this exciting new chapter of the JoCI, it is our hope that this pilot can lay the groundwork for sustained investment in the JoC community of New York City.
